The City of Independence recently unveiled a lifejacket loaner kiosk at Riverview Park in memory of a 13-year-old boy who drowned in the Willamette River. In partnership with Oregon Corrections Enterprises (OCE), the kiosk was designed and built to provide free life vests and bilingual signage for river visitors. This meaningful project is more than a structure—it’s a community’s response to tragedy and a proactive step toward water safety. The unveiling underscored the importance of access, awareness, and collaboration when it comes to saving lives.
