A New Path to Employment for AICs
For the first time in over 25 years, the Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) and Oregon Corrections Enterprises (OCE) have launched a work release program at Warner Creek Correctional Facility (WCCF). This groundbreaking initiative provides adults in custody (AICs) with hands-on job experience, equipping them with valuable skills to secure stable, well-paying careers upon release.Through a partnership with Pacific Pine Products Inc. in Lakeview, AICs gain real-world woodworking experience, crafting custom doors for residential and commercial properties. The goal is simple yet powerful: create a direct pathway from incarceration to meaningful employment.
Why This Matters
High-demand careers - Woodworking jobs offer competitive wages and are in demand due to a local labor shortage.
Real skills for real jobs - AICs develop industry-specific skills that translate into long-term career opportunities.
Reducing recidivism - Structured employment programs like this help create successful reentry pathways.
The Future of the Program
The program launched with three participants and has already seen early success. With plans to expand, DOC and OCE are actively exploring additional partnerships to bring work release opportunities to more facilities—helping more AICs prepare for life beyond incarceration.
