Recently, the OCE Woodshop at TRCI donated several handcrafted items to Camp Meadowood Springs to be bid on at a dinner and auction during their annual Camp Meadowood Charity Golf Tournament. The camp has served the needs of children with speech and hearing disabilities for 60 years. The money raised from the golf tournament funds scholarships, provides capital for ongoing facility improvements, and assists in funding therapeutic programs for children. The camp provides an environment that supports communication throughout the camp day, providing a safe place for campers to practice communication skills.

Campers have a variety of communication disorders, including articulation disorders, apraxia, receptive/expressive language disorders, auditory processing disorders, and stuttering. They also accept campers with other diagnosis that have communication needs that are secondary to another diagnosis, such as Autism or ADHD for campers 7 – 14 years old (or entering 1st – 9th grade. University students working toward SLP licensure work alongside camp counselors to plan and lead camp activities. This ensures that therapy goals are targeted throughout the camp day and that therapy is integrated into each aspect of camp.
